Baseball Behavior to Avoid

If you’re a baseball player, you’re probably excited about the new starting season. Our dentist, Dr. Parker Long, hopes you have a good one! One thing he recommends is keeping your smile in mind while you swing the bat, catch baseballs and do other baseball-related things. This is important because there are habits and behaviors that can harm the smile. In fact, it’s best to avoid those habits and behaviors as much as possible. They are:

Drinking sports drinks: Sports drinks can promote the development of cavities. This is because they are loaded with sugar. It’s best to avoid drinking sports drinks altogether and drink water instead.

Using tobacco: Tobacco can severely harm and damage the smile and oral health. It can even affect your entire health. It’s very important to avoid tobacco use. If you need help quitting the habits of chewing or smoking tobacco, you can call our office and ask for tips.

Chewing tooth-harming products: If you chew sunflower seeds and sugary gum while you play, your teeth can be in danger. This is because as you crack the seeds, the pressure applied to the teeth can cause enamel fractures. It’s also because as you chew sugary gum, you can promote cavities. It’s best to chew shell-less sunflower seeds and sugar-free gum instead.
