Best Practices for Oral Hygiene and Maintaining a Healthy Smile at Home
To help you take good care of your smile and oral health at home, Dr.
Parker Long and our dental team have some tips and recommendations for
you.
It is best to take regular care of your teeth so you may wash the
harmful bacteria away that promote tooth decay, gum disease, and
enamel erosion. So, please remember to brush your teeth twice a day,
preferably every morning when you wake up and every night before you
go to bed. Feel free to brush more frequently if you feel it is
necessary. As you brush, use a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride
toothpaste. After brushing at night, please remember to floss between
your teeth. You can do so with a flossing product of your choice.
People typically like to use waxed floss because it slides easily
between the teeth without harming the gums. Make sure you floss
between the teeth and along the gumline. After flossing, rinse your
mouth with antibacterial or fluoride mouthwash. This will wash away
loosened food particles and plaque as well as strengthen and nourish
your teeth. Lastly, don’t forget to visit Dr. Parker Long every six
months for a routine cleaning and exam.
